Va., in the summer of 1914, at such times as the occupations of the rest of my family left me to myself. I may say, therefore, that were it not for their indulgence in such captivating pleasures as bridge, dancing, tennis, and golf this record of my most delightful and instructive trip in West-C entral Europe would not have been attempted.
