À propos de l'auteur
Ruth Miskin is one of the UK's leading authorities on teaching children to read. She has many years' experience as a head teacher, teacher trainer and consultant in phonics and literacy, working with primary and secondary schools throughout the UK. Ruth has been an adviser to the government on many aspects of literacy teaching since 1997. Her work has been featured both by Newsnight on BBC2 and Dispatches on Channel 4. Ruth was awarded a CBE in 2019 for Services to Education.

This Reader contains ten short 'Ditty' texts which align with the phonic focus of the IntroductoryModule.The Ditties cover a variety of topics, from football, to fishing, to the nighttime adventures of a fox!Each book contains two high-interest fiction or non-fiction texts on topics that will appealto older readers. There is a variety of genres across the series, including stories, graphic texts, narrative non-fiction and quizzes - so there's something for everyone.The books have a grown-up look and feel that resembles the books their peers are reading. They contain appealing, age-appropriate black and white or two-colour illustrations, and full-colour photos. Crucially, they feel manageable for struggling readers, avoiding large blocks of text and including shortchapters and feature words. Independent reading is supported by a page before each text containing the Green Words, Red Words and Challenge Words they will come across in the text. The Fresh Start Readers are designed for independent reading after children have finished the Modules.
