In 2003, multiple Hugo and Nebula Award-winning science fiction author David Brin teamed up with acclaimed painter/comic book artist Scott Hampton to create The Life Eaters, an original graphic novel like no other. The book was published in hardcover (and subsequently in paperback) by DC Comics/WildStorm Productions. These hardcover first printing copies are as new, still in the original shrinkwrap. From the dust jacket's front flap: "Imagine a universe where the Nazis schemed another layer to their madness--using human sacrifice and necromancy to invoke blood "gods." Picture a world where technology has been trumped by magic and the human race has literally become the food of the Gods. "It is a world in which Eisenhower's troops, wading ashore at Normandy to put down history's worst evil, are met by towering beings who stir cyclones, hurl lightning, and laugh in the face of any opposition short of an atomic bomb. "But can such creatures actually exist? Are they really the living embodiment of Norse mythology, alien invaders.or something else? "Either way, it was still D-day. D for disaster. For doom. "But, with the help of the rogue god Loki, one man would fight back, and in doing so discover the horrible secret of the Aesir. This selfless act of unbridled bravery and sacrifice will inspire a people and perhaps alter the course of history. "It's a time for heroes. Armed not with superpowers, but courage." Publisher's Weekly said, "In 1986, science fiction writer Brin (Startide Rising; The Kiln People) published a novella, 'Thor Meets Captain America,' an alternate-history story in which the Nazis win WWII by enlisting the aid of the Norse gods (except for Loki, who assists the American resistance). With an understandable title change, this graphic novel expands on that story and presents a sequel to it. There are lots of imaginative details here: battles between jet fighters and gigantic Norse birds; a submarine carrying a crew of mythological dwarfs; and some clever speculation on the way that history might have turned in the past 60 years (e.g., the 'Khmer Bleu'?)." These copies were never read, and are as crisp and bright as the day they were printed. They're in in their original, undamaged dust jackets. You won't find copies this pristine anywhere.
