United States Army Serial Number 37531447 is a wartime autobiography giving vivid accounts of emotions, unrevised history and erratum on both the training fields and during the riggers of battle. The author relates happenings of a World War II 'noncom' soldier known by his army serial number of 37531447. It is an unpretentious allegory of men at arms. The book is authored with a wonderful humorous and human perspective. It comes from a different viewpoint...one chronicling the experience of military life for a naive young man coming from the vast pastoral tall grass prairie of the Flint Hills of Kansas. This young lad from Chase County, the county's first Eagle Scout, skillfully narrates the slow subtle transition of values in his life as a former civilian...to that of a well-trained combat soldier, doing what warriors have been conditioned to endure and do.
Kenneth (Ken) Lenke was born and raised in the heart of the tall grass prairie country of the Flint Hills of Chase County, Kansas. He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and master's degree from Emporia State University. Lenke, a physics instructor, retired from the Scottsdale (Arizona) Public School System. After relinquishing his teaching assignment, he developed a cultural interest in the indigenous dwellers of the American Southwest, including the music of these early dwellers. His flute music has been heard by many including schoolchildren at the Desert Center Learning Facility located in Scottsdale. He served as a volunteer at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center. The author currently resides in Phoenix.
