On his 65th birthday, Kenneth's daughter Helen gives him two gifts; a pale blue leather bound notebook, and a promise to write his story And so the bedtime stories her father told begin to come to life as Kenneth sits in his rocking chair and starts to remember. And the two of them piece together a childhood enveloped in the mystery and tragedy of the Second World War. Of acorn fights with evacuees, Christmas dances with family, trips to the cinema with friends, and lucky escapes from air-raids, unexploded bombs and of course the dreaded school bullies! But when Kenneth remembers the visit from the boy in the dark blue uniform on a bright red post office bicycle Helen starts to wonder if some memories may be best forgotten?
