This book is the true story of a young man whose life was shaped and molded by the events of the years immediately following Alaskan statehood. The many incidents described are those of his personal accomplishments and failures, written in the first person format. All of his adventures are inc1uded without embellishment or reservation. You will see and feel some of those incidents as they are described in detail, and you will find all of the emotions he felt. as he: lived those moments, hours, days and years of learning and enjoying the Alaskan lifestyle. The people and places are real, the events are sometimes historical fact and sometimes only the opinion of the writer, but everything described in this book actually happened. The time line of the story has been verified by entries in the author's pilot. log book, and the incidents described have been verified in most cases by the-other people who were involved. You will be taken from the early days of the author's life in Alaska, through the fast-paced and dangerous times of the 60's and 70's, to the end of his active years. This book is a summary of those experiences.
The author of this book has written of his daily life in the U. S. Air Force while stationed in Alaska from 1959 through the years of the Cold War; the beginning of the Alaska Pipeline, and the maturing of Alaska as a state. His experiences have been described in detail, both the good and the bad ones, without exaggeration. Sometimes humorous, sometimes dangerous, but always interesting. He lived the Alaskan lifestyle as a sportsman pilot and big game guide, the skipper of many different boats, and as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He has experienced most of what Alaska was and is today. This book is a compilation of his memories of those times.
