Synopsis

The Social Root of Discrimination explains the phenomenon of anti-Semitism and why it flourished in European Countries. In this classic volume, Peretz F. Bernstein frames anti-Semitism in a sociological theoretical framework and dismisses the common negative perceptions that were held about Jews as lacking any general validity. Still valuable to this day, Bernstein's analysis goes beyond anti-Semitism and religious discrimination to sketch a general theory of social groups and conflict.
