Susan E. Israel is the graduate reading coordinator and assistant professor at the University of Dayton. In addition, she has served the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame. She continues to promote reading through her work with the International Reading Association and other national literacy organizations. Her most recent publication is a comprehensive volume titled Metacognition and Literacy Learning. She researches in the area of developmental aspects of reading comprehension, development of a child′s mind, metacognition, how the brain enables reading comprehension, and research in neuroscience as it relates to reading processes. Her most recent article appeared in The Reading Teacher and was entitled "The ABC′s of Effective Think-Alouds."
