Leadership is a popular topic. People want to know what accounts for good leadership and how to become good leaders. Despite this strong interest in leadership, few books clearly describe the complexities of practicing leadership. Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice has been written to fi ll this void. Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice is designed to help the reader understand how he or she can become a better leader. While the book is grounded in leadership theory, it describes the basics of leadership in an understandable and user-friendly way. Each chapter focuses on a fundamental aspect of leadership and discusses how it can be applied in real leadership situations. The text also features a full chapter and questionnaire on ethics, a particularly hot topic, and offers a unique chapter on dealing with outgroups. Perhaps the most notable features of this book are 3 interactive components included in every chapter which give the reader the means to explore leadership concepts and applications in his or her own life: Self-Assessment Questionnaire, a specially-designed tool that will help the reader determine his or her own leadership style and preferences; Observational Exercise, that guides the reader in examining behaviors of leaders from his or her life experiences; Refl ection and Action Worksheet, which stimulates the reader to refl ect upon his or her leadership style and identify actions to take to become more effective.
