The author, Richard E Flanders, served in the First Battalion of the Eighth Calvary in Vietnam in 1967-1968. He underwent basic training in Ft Lewis, Washington and advanced infantry training in Ft Polk, Louisana before being assigned to combat duty in the Republic of Vietnam. His post Vietnam service also included Ft Benning, Georgia. He studied business at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Currently, he is a distribution clerk with the United States Postal Service in Columbus, Georgia where he began his career in 1968.
