Summary We have been led to believe, or molded into believing, in a limited conception of what is humanly possible! There is currently emerging, however, a redefinition as to what is humanly possible…. a new conception of our human heritage…. Humanistic/Holistic psychology is this new, developing theory of human development which challenges some of the underlying premises that have dominated American Psychological thought since the 1900’s. It is often referred to as “the third force” and is distinct from Psychoanalysis and Behaviorism, which have been the two previous forces in American psychology. This book provides the reader with the basic structure of this emerging orientation as well as its practical applications in the areas of counseling and personal growth. It is time to stop selling ourselves short!

Author Biography Neal Klein began his search into the nature of consciousness and human potential while an undergraduate at Dickinson College in the late 1960's. He continued this work at Boston University where he earned both his masters and doctoral degrees. For the past twenty-five years he has taught at Lesley University in Cambridge Massachusetts where he focuses in the areas of Counseling, Holistic Health and Cross-Cultural Psychology. He is also a member of the Steering Committee at Lesley's Institute of Body, Mind and Spirituality. Additionally, he has over twenty-five years experience as a practicing psychotherapist, as well as being the owner of Dancing Feats Swing and Ballroom dance studio. Combined projects with his wife, Jan Wall, include 1) organizing cross-cultural adventures in order to have students (along with family and friends) further their understanding of how different cultures/tribes/indigenous peoples live in their natural settings, and 2) establishing the Foundation for Ubiquitous Nonsense (F.U.N.), whose mission is to help people "lighten up", connect with their inner sense of excitement/aliveness regarding how they want to work and live their lives, and promote social healing. One of his life quests is to help expand the current prevailing paradigm that we as human beings and as psychologists use to formulate our beliefs regarding what is humanly possible. This book is part of this quest. He lives with his wife and family in Arlington, Massachusetts and Newfane, Vermont.
