The author was born in 1917 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where she lived, off and on, For thirty-six years, meanwhile was married and had four children. Widowed, she moved with her children to Topeka, Kansas where she stayed sixteen years, studied to be a teacher, remarried briefly, and had two more children (twins). Her serious illness caused her to move east hoping for non-existent treatment. After two years in Florida she moved to rural Vermont where she still lives and makes books for children.
