Catherine Furze is a novel written by Mark Rutherford that tells the story of a young woman named Catherine who lives in the 19th century. The book follows Catherine's life from her childhood in a small village to her adulthood in London. Catherine is a strong-willed and independent woman who is determined to make her own way in the world. She is intelligent and ambitious, and she dreams of becoming a writer. However, Catherine's path is not an easy one. She faces many challenges and obstacles, including poverty, illness, and social prejudice.Throughout the book, Catherine struggles to find her place in society and to overcome the limitations that are placed on women during this time period. She also grapples with questions of faith and morality, as she tries to reconcile her own beliefs with the expectations of those around her.Despite the many difficulties she faces, Catherine remains resilient and determined. She refuses to give up on her dreams and continues to fight for what she believes in. In the end, Catherine's perseverance and strength of character enable her to achieve her goals and find happiness and fulfillment in her life.Overall, Catherine Furze is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of gender, class, and identity in the 19th century. It is a must-read for anyone interested in women's history and the challenges faced by women during this time period.""A canting, hypocritical parson, type not uncommon, described over and over again in novels, and thoroughly familiar to theatre-goers."" Such, no doubt, will be the summary verdict passed upon Mr. Cardew. The truth is, however, that he did not cant, and was not a hypocrite. One or two observations here may perhaps be pertinent. The accusation of hypocrisy, if we mean lofty assertion, and occasional and even conspicuous moral failure, may be brought against some of the greatest figures in history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Webster's edition of this classic is organized to expose the reader to a maximum number of synonyms and antonyms for difficult and often ambiguous English words that are encountered in other works of literature, conversation, or academic examinations. Extremely rare or idiosyncratic words and expressions are given lower priority in the notes compared to words which are ¿difficult, and often encountered¿ in examinations. Rather than supply a single synonym, many are provided for a variety of meanings, allowing readers to better grasp the ambiguity of the English language, and avoid using the notes as a pure crutch. Having the reader decipher a word's meaning within context serves to improve vocabulary retention and understanding. Each page covers words not already highlighted on previous pages. If a difficult word is not noted on a page, chances are that it has been highlighted on a previous page. A more complete thesaurus is supplied at the end of the book; synonyms and antonyms are extracted from Webster's Online Dictionary.
