Synopsis

The Poorhouse Waif and His Divine Teacher is a book written by Isabel C. Byrum. The story revolves around a young boy who is left at a poorhouse by his mother. The boy is mistreated and abused by the caretakers at the poorhouse until he meets a kind and loving woman who becomes his divine teacher. The book is a heartwarming tale of the transformative power of love and the importance of having a positive influence in one's life. It explores themes of faith, redemption, and the resilience of the human spirit.Through the story of the poorhouse waif and his divine teacher, Byrum delivers a powerful message about the importance of compassion and kindness towards others, especially those who are less fortunate. The book is a testament to the enduring power of hope and the human capacity for empathy and love.Overall, The Poorhouse Waif and His Divine Teacher is a touching and inspiring read that will leave readers feeling uplifted and inspired. The evening's discourse was given in the English language, but it was no more enlightening to Edwin than the afternoon's sermon had been; still, by his expression of reverence and awe the congregation was not aware of this fact. At the close of the service Edwin was surprized to see that the entire congregation arose and remained standing as he had done in the afternoon. By this he supposed that all who were there had come to be converted. Then an altar-call was made, and Edwin's interpreter whispered, ""That means to go forward.""This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Présentation de l'éditeur

Webster's edition of this classic is organized to expose the reader to a maximum number of synonyms and antonyms for difficult and often ambiguous English words that are encountered in other works of literature, conversation, or academic examinations. Extremely rare or idiosyncratic words and expressions are given lower priority in the notes compared to words which are ¿difficult, and often encountered¿ in examinations. Rather than supply a single synonym, many are provided for a variety of meanings, allowing readers to better grasp the ambiguity of the English language, and avoid using the notes as a pure crutch. Having the reader decipher a word's meaning within context serves to improve vocabulary retention and understanding. Each page covers words not already highlighted on previous pages. If a difficult word is not noted on a page, chances are that it has been highlighted on a previous page. A more complete thesaurus is supplied at the end of the book; synonyms and antonyms are extracted from Webster's Online Dictionary.
