The book moves on to explain the current law in England in relation to Self Defence and how far people are actually allowed to go to protect themselves if they are subject to an attack. The next chapter is based on forensic awareness and what to do and what to expect if we are attacked and how we can preserve all forensic evidence to assist the Investigating officers. The final chapter covers 26 basic self defence techniques from punching to elbow strikes to arm locks, knife attacks and take downs. Alison Sharman is a 2nd Dan black belt in Bushido Ryu which is a style of Karate that incorporates jujitsu, judo and Thai boxing. Alison has trained in Martial Arts since the age of seven and in 1984 at the age of 17 Alison won her first National title at the English Open Cup. The following year Alison achieved her Black belt in the sport and went on to win the British Championships in Crystal Palace, London. In 1992 Alison became the British Police Karate Champion, a title which she held for 5 years prior to retiring from competition in 1998. During this time Alison regularly instructed both men and women in Martial Arts and went on to specialise in teaching both men and women at Self Defence incorporating many techniques from each of the Arts and also qualifying as a Police Self Defence Instructor. In 1987 Alison gave birth to her daughter Michelle and when Michelle was 10 weeks old Alison was subject to an attack from a man using a knife whilst pushing her daughter in a pram through the dark streets of Halifax on a cold winters evening. Alison fought off the attacker and the National press covered the story. The matter was reported to the Police. Alison suffered badly from night mares and the natural fears created from such a harrowing experience but to her credit she over came this by choosing a profession within the Police Service. After working for 15 years within West Yorkshire Alison moved to London as a Detective Sergeant in 2004. Alison has recently being involved in the Investigations of the terrorist attacks in London performing the role of the Acting Detective Inspector.
