Synopsis

This book of poems came about after my Mother passed away on Valentine's Day. I went through my archives and found some of my older poetry and decided to take up writing again. Having been blessed by God, the poems keep pouring forth onto paper and I wish to share my experience, hope and strength with you, the dear reader. I believe in the power of words, whether written, spoken or through gestures and sign language. Words can enlighten, dampen the spirit, raise us to great heights and take us to the lowest points in our lives.

Biographie de l'auteur

I was born in the small town of Ironton, Missouri in the mid-40s. My father was a minister and my mother was the devoted pastor's wife. We moved to Kansas City when I was three and Dad started his ministry. We moved from there to Fulton, Missouri where I graduated from high school. It was during those teenage years I started writing poetry, articles, short stories and novels. Many of my poems were "grim" in nature because I was either frustrated or depressed when I wrote them. Something happened while I was writing--a spiritual uplifting--that led to more uplifting writing. That 'spiritual uplifting' made me realize more about my Higher Power and that someone more powerful than me had control in my life. I was still free, however, to explore the many things God gave me such as making my own decisions. I learned that it was I who set the levels of frustration and worry in my life and had been given a gift to have control over them instead of them over me. I have had poems published in Writer's Work while living in Northern Virgina, maintained a weekly book review column in a military newspaper, The Castle, written armchair travelogues, the album notes for a religious musical work, and a short piece that appeared in a national men's magazine.
