Synopsis
You are aware, I suppose, Marshall, that there have been considerably over a million dollars' worth of automobiles stolen in this city during the past few months? asked Guy Garrick one night when I had dropped into his office. "I wasn't aware of the exact extent of the thefts, though of course I knew of their existence," I replied. "What's the matter?"

Guy Garrick, a detective who has made a scientific study of crime, has been the hero of a number of earlier short stories. In the present novel he is engaged in tracking down a gang of motor bandits. "An expensive car has been stolen from New York, and one of the stool pigeons of the police has been mysteriously murdered with no trace of the bullet or weapon that killed her. The body is found in New Jersey, though the police believe that she must have been murdered in a ladies' pool room, which she was investigating. The police, the city detectives, the automobile detectives and Guy Garrick are all working on the problem, and the unravelling and subsequent glory of Garrick are very exciting."

About the Author Arthur Benjamin Reeve (1880 - 1936) was an American mystery writer known for creating the character Professor Craig Kennedy, sometimes called "The American Sherlock Holmes", and sidekick Walter Jameson, a newspaper reporter. The bulk of Reeve's fame is based on the 82 Craig Kennedy stories, published in Cosmopolitan magazine between 1910 and 1918. These were collected in book form; with the third collection, the short stories were stitched together into pseudo-novels. The 12-volume Craig Kennedy Stories were released in 1918.
