Frederick William Rolfe (1860 - 1913), alias Baron Corvo, was anEnglish novelist born in Cheapside, London. He was the son of a piano manufacturer. Rolfebecame a Roman Catholicin 1886 and also tried to become a priest. He remained a teacher,painter, and photographer and wrote under the nameBaron Corvo. His most famous works are Hadrian the Seventh (1904), which chronicles the life of Arthur Rose, a failed candidate for priesthood, and Stories Toto Told Me (1898).
