George Fyler Townsend(1814 - 1900) wasan English writer best known for translating thestandard English version of Aesop's Fables. He translated a volume of almost three hundred and fifty fables. Townsendintroduced the tradition of stating a concise and pithy moral at the end of each story that proved very influential. He also published a revised edition of The Arabian Nights in 1860.
