Synopsis

Liliom is a play written by Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnar. The play is set in Budapest and tells the story of Liliom, a carousel barker who falls in love with a young woman named Julie. Despite their love for each other, Liliom struggles with his temper and his inability to provide for Julie. When he is fired from his job and turns to crime to make ends meet, Liliom is caught and sent to purgatory. While there, he is given the chance to return to Earth for one day to make amends for his mistakes. The play explores themes of love, redemption, and the consequences of one's actions. Liliom has been adapted into several films and stage productions, including the popular musical Carousel.THIS 68 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: The Theatre Guild Anthology V1, by Ferenc Molnar.
