Synopsis

Faust: A Story In Nine Letters is a novella written by Ivan Turgenev, a Russian author, in 1856. The book is a retelling of the classic German legend of Faust, a scholar who makes a deal with the devil in exchange for knowledge and power. The story is told through a series of nine letters between two characters, a young Russian man named Pavel and his friend, a German named Erik. Pavel is fascinated by the story of Faust and asks Erik to tell him more about it. Erik obliges and begins to recount the tale of Faust's pact with the devil and the consequences that follow. As the story unfolds, Pavel becomes increasingly disturbed by the dark themes and the tragic fate of Faust. He questions the morality of pursuing knowledge and power at any cost and the consequences of making deals with the devil. The novella explores themes of temptation, morality, and the dangers of pursuing power and knowledge without regard for the consequences. Turgenev's writing is known for its psychological depth and nuanced character development, making Faust: A Story In Nine Letters a thought-provoking and insightful read.THIS 80 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Phantoms and Other Stories, by Ivan Turgenieff.
