James A. Cogswell has served as a Presbyterian pastor and teacher; a missionary to Japan; Asia Secretary and later World Service/World Hunger Program Director for the Presbyterian Church; and Director of Overseas Ministries for the National Council of Churches. He is the author of study books on Japan, Mission, Hunger, and Refugee Concerns, as well as numerous articles in church publications. After retirement, he was appointed a Specialist in Mission History and has led in the initiation of a Mission History Project for the Presbyterian Church (USA).
