Nov. 11'th, my birthday 1929, right after the disaster in the economy occurred. I grew up in this depressed era, but only have pleasant memories. I was the youngest of a large family, and no doubt was doted upon and probably spoiled. I recall one birthday when there were only clothes as gifts, and I rebelled, but was soothed by my elder siblings. They took me to see the 'Armistice Day' parade. Seeing the marching bands and soldiers, with banners and flags, along with sirens and whistles blowing, excited and gratified me, especially when being told it was all for me, for my birthday. I got in much trouble later on, in grade school, because I expressed that belief. The ridicule I endured from realizing the truth was a stinging embarrassing wake up call to reality that I didn't want to face. After H.S., I joined the Army, and was assigned to the 71'st Army Band at Ft Clayton, CZ. The 'War' in Korea broke out shortly after. I remained in Panama, and was discharged in 1952, then took advantage of the GI bill and entered a higher Ed facility. I completed my freshman year, and about midway into the sophomore stage, I ruffled the feathers of the powers that be, and not realizing the damage done by invoking their ire, found that my GI payments were somehow discontinued, and I was forced to exit the hallowed halls of higher learning. I had a basic understanding of construction, having worked with many home-builders through H.S. and I reverted to that experience and gained entrance to the Carpenter's Union, and remained in that trade till retirement. After retirement, I attempted to return to the university to complete my schooling. At this point, was confronted by the school president's interrogation of why I was seeking a degree. During, and because of this research, it became evident that what I really yearned for was an audience. I was opinionated and resentful of not being listened to.
