Synopsis

Set against the contemporary background of the Basque country, this is the story of love interwoven with crime, murder and terrorism. A young Englishman is unwittingly drawn into this realm when he has a romance with Arantza, a Basque separatist sympathiser. When he goes to the aid of her more radical brother, I¿aki, he is destined to face the harrowing deaths and sufferings of innocent victims. His understanding of the convoluted Basque political scene only takes a small step forward but he is left with an abiding affection for a proud and tenacious people and a longing to see peace established in their Euskadi.

Biographie de l'auteur

Peter Kunkler was educated at Sherborne School, St Catharine's College, Cambridge, and St Bartholomew's Hospital. He now, with his Basque wife, Nekane, lives in San Sebastian, Donostia. His previous novels include Las Fuentes (1995), The New Mrs Fox (1996) and (as Horace Elmore) Raquel's Spanish Inheritance (1997). By profession a clinical oncologist, he has been on the staff of teaching hospitals in Birmingham, Cardiff and, as professor in the university, in Leeds. His wife's cousin, onetime Civil Governor of Gipuzkoa, tragically was in 2000 murdered by ETA.
