Biographie de l'auteur

Alberto Blest Gana (1830-1920) est considéré comme le créateur du roman moderne chilien et comme le grand romancier réaliste latino-américain du XIXe siècle. Très proche de la France (il y fit une partie de ses études et de sa carrière diplomatique), Alberto Blest Gana est influencé par Stendhal et Balzac. Et c'est après avoir lu ce dernier qu'il brûla en autodafé tous ses poèmes de jeunesse.
