Synopsis

In 1773, Hayward Morgan, a young gentleman destined to inherit his father’s estate in Derbyshire, England, captures the heart of the local vicar’s daughter, Eliza Breeze. Her dark beauty and spirited ways are not enough to win him, due to her station in life, even though her father has set aside a sizable dowry for her. Meanwhile, another seeks her hand—Hayward’s fortune-hunting cousin, the husband of choice to her ailing father. Circumstances throw Eliza in Hayward’s path, and what follows is a struggle for survival, a test of faith, and the quest to find lasting love in an unforgiving wilderness. From the lush Derbyshire countryside, across the sea to a wilderness along the Potomac, Before the Scarlet Dawn brings readers a story that touches on the desire to be loved and accepted, and the courage to face the obstacles in life alongside the one we love. It reflects the complexities that our fallen nature brings when this desire becomes overwhelming and we go astray, and the painful journey often taken to find redemption.
