Synopsis

""Thackeray The Humourist And The Man Of Letters"" is a biography of the famous English author, William Makepeace Thackeray, written by Theodore Taylor. The book tells the story of Thackeray's life, from his childhood and early years as a struggling writer, to his rise to fame as a novelist and satirist. The biography also includes a selection of Thackeray's characteristic speeches, which are gathered together here for the first time. These speeches offer insight into Thackeray's wit and humor, as well as his views on literature, society, and politics. Throughout the book, Taylor provides a detailed and engaging portrait of Thackeray, exploring his personal life, his friendships and rivalries with other writers of the time, and his literary legacy. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in the life and work of one of the most important writers of the Victorian era.To Which Is Added In Memorium By Charles Dickens And A Sketch, By Anthony Trollope. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Présentation de l'éditeur

The following brief Memoir of the late Mr. Thackeray may, perhaps, be acceptable as filling an intermediate place between the newspaper or review article and the more elaborate biography which may be expected in due course. The writer had some peculiar means of acquiring information for the purpose of his sketch; and to this he has added such particulars as have been already made public in English and foreign publications and other scattered sources. The common complaints against memoirs of this necessarily hasty and incomplete character will not be repeated by those who are accustomed to test questions in morals by the principles which underlie them. That there is nothing necessarily indelicate or improper in the desire of the public to obtain some personal knowledge of the great and good who have just passed awayis assumed by every daily.
