Synopsis

Algebraic Geometry: A New Treatise On Analytical Conic Sections is a comprehensive guide to the study of conic sections in algebraic geometry. Written by William Martin Baker, this book offers a detailed exploration of the properties and applications of conic sections, including their use in solving problems related to geometry, physics, and engineering. The book begins with an introduction to the basic concepts of algebraic geometry, including the theory of equations and the geometry of curves. It then delves into the study of conic sections, providing a thorough analysis of their properties, equations, and geometric representations.Throughout the text, Baker provides numerous examples and exercises to help readers develop their understanding of the material. He also includes a chapter on the history of conic sections, tracing their development from ancient Greece to modern times.Overall, Algebraic Geometry: A New Treatise On Analytical Conic Sections is an essential resource for anyone interested in the study of algebraic geometry, conic sections, or their applications in mathematics and science. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Thb: recent reforms in the teaching of Mathematics willj it is hoped, be considered sufficient justification for the appearance of a new treatise on Algebraic Geometry, and attention may be called to the following points which differentiate the present volume from its predecessors on the same subject; As it is written for beginners, and for the average boy, the straight line and the circle are very fully treated. The elementary ideas of the Calculus have been utilised, and full use made of one of the best of recent reforms, viz., the abolition of the water-tight compartment between Geometry and A lgebra. The examples are numerous and varied, and a number of new types have been introduced, such as have been set in recent Examinations. Eevision questions which may be taken orally, andE evision papers, are also given at various stages. The use of squared paper is encouraged, and another special feature of the wort is the very free use of diagrams. All the most important properties of the Conic Sections are proved, either by Algebra or by Geometry, and the book claims to be complete as far as, and including the use of Cartesian and Polar co-ordinates. The authors thanks are due toM r. J. M. Dyer, of Eton, for permission to use examples from his collection of Mathematical Examples, to the Controller of His Majesty sS tationery Office for permission to use examples set in recent examinations held by the Civil Service Commissioners, and toM r, T. Hyett, of Cheltenham College, for valuable suggestions and help, W. M. B. May,
