Calvinism: Six Stone Foundation Lectures is a book written by Abraham Kuyper, a Dutch theologian and politician who lived from 1837 to 1920. The book is a collection of six lectures that Kuyper delivered in 1898 at Princeton Theological Seminary in the United States. The lectures explore the theological and philosophical principles of Calvinism, a branch of Protestantism that emphasizes the sovereignty of God, predestination, and the total depravity of humanity. Kuyper argues that Calvinism provides a comprehensive worldview that encompasses all aspects of life, including politics, economics, and culture. He contends that Calvinism is not just a religious doctrine, but a way of life that shapes the values and beliefs of individuals and societies. The book is divided into six chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of Calvinism. The first chapter discusses the historical origins of Calvinism and its relationship to other Protestant denominations. The second chapter explores the concept of predestination and its implications for human freedom and responsibility. The third chapter examines the role of the church in Calvinist theology, while the fourth chapter discusses the relationship between Calvinism and science. The fifth chapter of the book focuses on the impact of Calvinism on politics and economics, arguing that the Calvinist emphasis on individual responsibility and hard work laid the foundation for modern capitalism. Finally, the sixth chapter explores the cultural impact of Calvinism, particularly its influence on art, music, and literature. Overall, Calvinism: Six Stone Foundation Lectures is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of one of the most important theological and philosophical movements in Western history. Kuyper's writing is clear and accessible, making this book a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding the principles and values of Calvinism. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
