Shakespeare's Knowledge and Use of the Bible by Charles Wordsworth is a comprehensive analysis of the influence of the Bible on the works of William Shakespeare. The book explores the extent to which Shakespeare was familiar with the Bible and how he incorporated its teachings, stories, and language into his plays and sonnets. Wordsworth examines the biblical references and allusions in Shakespeare's works, highlighting the ways in which the playwright used them to convey his ideas and messages. The book also delves into the historical and cultural context of Shakespeare's time, providing insight into the religious beliefs and practices of the Elizabethan era. Through meticulous research and analysis, Wordsworth offers a compelling argument for the importance of the Bible in Shakespeare's literary legacy. This book is a valuable resource for scholars, students, and anyone interested in the relationship between literature and religion.1864. Even the notes of critics upon Shakspeare, superfluously full in pointing out his obligations, real or supposed, to secular authors, are singularly meagre in the references which they make to the Holy Scriptures. And yet how abundant is the room for such reference, and how much it may conduce to the mutual illustration of the two books, which as Christians and as Britons we should value most, will be seen, I trust, upon every page of the Second Part of the following dissertation.
