Synopsis

""A Compendious Book Of Psalms And Spiritual Songs, Commonly Known As The Gude And Godlie Ballates"" is a collection of religious hymns and poetry compiled by Scottish brothers James and Robert Wedderburn. Originally published in 1567, the book contains 68 pieces, including adaptations of psalms and original compositions. The lyrics are written in Scots dialect and are intended to be sung in a congregational setting. The book was widely popular in Scotland during the 16th and 17th centuries and was used as a tool for spreading the Protestant faith. This edition of the book also includes a preface by the Wedderburns, as well as an introduction and notes by editor John W. Baxter. Overall, ""A Compendious Book Of Psalms And Spiritual Songs"" is a significant piece of Scottish religious history and a valuable resource for those interested in the history of hymnody and religious poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
