Synopsis

Lectures on Syphilis is a book written by James R. Lane that provides a comprehensive overview of the sexually transmitted disease syphilis. The book is structured as a series of lectures, covering topics such as the history of syphilis, its clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment. Lane draws on his extensive experience as a physician and researcher to provide detailed descriptions of the various stages of syphilis and the ways in which the disease can affect different parts of the body. The book also includes discussions of the social and cultural implications of syphilis, including its impact on public health and the stigma associated with the disease. Overall, Lectures on Syphilis is a valuable resource for medical professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding this complex and historically significant disease. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

These Lectures were delivered at the Harveian Society, at the end of 1876, and appeared in the Lancet in the following year. At the repeated request of friends I have been induced to reprint them in a separate form, with some emendations and additions. The object I had in view was to trace as concisely as possible the progress made of late years in the investigation of venereal disease, to point out what may be considered to be the generally accepted views of the profession at the present time, as well as to indicate the principal points of divergence. With the exception of those who have specially studied the subject there are few who have had time or patience to wade through the voluminous literature of the last twenty or thirty years, and it appears to me there is still much uncertainty in the minds of practitioners generally on various important points.
