Synopsis

Poet. Writer. Orator. Servant of God.

George William Lloyd's life intersected with the greatest social and military conflict to take place on American soil. The Civil War not only touched Reverend Lloyd's actions at the time, but also influenced the direction for the rest of his days. British born and educated, Presbyterian Reverend Lloyd defended the Union and the freedom of all individuals during his fiery sermons in a Northern New Jersey Presbyterian church. Although his fervent views would eventually lead to the dissolution of his pastor-ship from his beloved First Presbyterian Church in Branchville, New Jersey, Lloyd maintained his composure and dignity throughout his eventual travels in the upper Midwest. After many years and hundreds of miles Reverend Lloyd triumphantly returned to Branchville, New Jersey until the end of his life. From Wales, England to New Jersey, Michigan, Iowa, and beyond, this powerful history of this now unforgotten man will delight and inspire readers. Follow Lloyd's journey through the turbulent mid-19th century to the serenity and peace of the early 20th century United States through his original sermons, letters and poems that have been miraculously preserved for over 100 years. George William Lloyd's life is both unique and inspirational. It also provides a candid and personal snapshot of America seldom seen in history books.
