He was born George Ray Houston, in Sylvester, Georgia in 1944. Ray grew up in rural Southwest Georgia, where he developed a wonderful love for God, family, heritage and country. He graduated from Worth County High School in 1963 and attended a local junior college for a year. Ray was drafted in the U. S. Army and served for two years. He retired from the United States Civil Service Commission, Department Of The Navy, United States Marine Corps after serving almost 23 years. George Ray Houston has written poetry for over a half a century. He enjoys the flowery verse of yesteryear and has an opinion that his victorian style of writing will become popular again. A 1990 graduate of Worth County High School, Kristy Houston Maddox was awarded a Hollie Donaldson Scholarship and attended Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton. She received a degree in liberal arts, was the Editor of the literary magazine, The Pegasus, and played trumpet in the band program. She furthered her education at Valdosta State University, where she received a degree in English and in journalism. She was the Features Editor for her college paper, The Spectator, and a staff writer. Three generations of family poets will continue in this family with her daughter, Hope Busbin, who also enjoys reading, writing poetry and is a self-taught artist. Kristy is also the single parent of Will, who is 8 years old and loves to fish. At the age of 8-years-old, Ms. Maddox, began writing, and is currently employed with her hometown paper, The Sylvester Local, as a staff writer. Her first love is writing features about the unique people she has met in Worth County. She is a member of Northside Baptist Church, where her daughter was recently baptized.
