Synopsis

The Works of George Meredith, Memorial Edition, Vol. 8, Vittoria, Vol. 2 is part of a comprehensive collection of George Meredith's writings, published as a tribute to the author. George Meredith was a prominent English novelist and poet of the Victorian era, known for his complex characters, satirical wit, and exploration of social and psychological themes.

This particular volume is the second part of Vittoria, one of Meredith's historical novels set during the Italian Risorgimento, the period of Italy's unification in the 19th century. Vittoria follows the story of an Italian opera singer named Vittoria, who becomes deeply involved in the nationalist movement. The novel portrays her as a symbol of Italian patriotism and explores her relationships, struggles, and the broader political context of the time.

In Vittoria, Vol. 2, the narrative continues to unfold against the backdrop of the Italian struggle for independence, with Meredith weaving together elements of romance, political intrigue, and social commentary. His detailed characterization and vivid descriptions bring to life the tumultuous period of the Risorgimento, making the novel a compelling exploration of both personal and national identity.
