Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. A masterwork of conversational prose, The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table offers a series of essays and dialogues that explore identity, intellect, society, and human nature with incisive wit and philosophical charm. Set in the form of breakfast-table discussions at a boarding house, the work blends humor with deep reflection, capturing the intellectual spirit of 19th-century America. Its blend of observation, anecdote, and social critique remains a touchstone of literary essay writing. The book is written in the form of a dialogue between the author and members of a New England boarding house. The topics discussed range from an essay on the unexpected benefits of old age to the finest place to site a dwelling. This item is printed on demand.
