Biographie de l'auteur

Harold Leland Goodwin (1914-1990) was an American author who was known for writing several popular non-fiction bools about science and space exploration. However, he is best known for writing under a couple pen names: John Blaine for the "Rick Brant" series (he co-wrote books 1-3 with Peter J. Harkins and went solo for books 4-24); and as Blake Savage for "RIP Foster Rides the Gray Planet." The latter book has the distinction of being published twice under different titles ("Assignment in Space with RIP Foster") and with a complete change out of the interior and cover art. ------ Thomas Hudson is also an American author (still alive) who decided that the two versions of the book—both of which he owns—ought to be printed with ALL the art available. This is that book. But, what of this man? Well, in his own mind, Mr. Hudson holds a PhD given him in honor of his dedication of the School of Hard Knocks®. In fact, his imaginary child was Student Of The Month in that same school more than 40 years ago. He takes everything in life seriously and can be seen nearly every day of the month in the disguise of an ancient Chinese man in Balboa Park in San Diego practicing Tai Chi. He moves ever so slowly, but he is like the wind. Under his own name and others he has written over 20 novels, 60 short stories/novellas, and is the editor for several other authors. He has been working on a stage play for 24 years and would have it finished except for his need to continue perfecting his tai chi.

He could hardly believe his ears. Could a green young Planeteer, just through his training, possibly carry out orders like these? Sunny space, what a trick it would be! From the moment Rip boards the space ship Scorpius there is a thrill a minute. He and his nine daring Planeteers must cope with the merciless hazing of the spacemen commanding the ship, and they must outwit the desperate Connies, who threaten to plunge all of space into war. There are a thousand dangers to be faced in high vacuum—and all of this while carrying out an assignment that will take every reader's breath away. ----------- This SPECIAL EDITION contains the story published both as "RIP Foster Rides the Gray Planet" (1952) and "Assignment Outer Space with RIP Foster" (1958) plus the complete illustrations from both editions by the separate artists!
