About The Author Zia Rehman aged 74, a businessman and freelance writer, came from Pakistan with his family to settle in the United States. By race, he is an Afghan from the Pushtun-Durrani tribe. He received his early education in public schools in India during the Britsih Raj. After the Partition of India, his parents moved to the new country-Pakistan in 1947. He studied at the prestigious Government College Lahore and holds a Masters degree in Political Science. In this book, he recalls with nostalgia, some cherished memories of his early childhood in India and college years in Pakistan. The author writes for pleasure and pastime. His favorite subject is national and international affairs. In September 2001, he wrote two articles for the Atlanta Journal Constitution about Afghanistan and the Taliban, published on September 18 and November 22, 2001 at a time when little was known about the country and the Taliban-Al-Qaida axis of evil. His first book on Afghanistan appeared in 2005 with the intriguing title 'Car Grease for the Camel,' with the sub-tiltle, 'A Road Journey across Afghanistan.' In it, he shares his memories of a 1969 road trip through Afghanistan right upto the western border country Iran. The author is a linguist; speaks Farsi, Urdu, Punjabi and English. He lives with his wife of 46 years, three great children, and six grand children. He is a man of varied interests, which he pursues as a hobby.
