Pseudepigrapha: An Account of Certain Apocryphal Sacred Writings of the Jews and Early Christians is a book written by William John Deane and originally published in 1891. The book is a comprehensive account of the Pseudepigrapha, a collection of Jewish and early Christian writings that are not included in the Bible, but are still considered to be of great historical and religious significance.Deane provides an overview of the history and background of the Pseudepigrapha, discussing their origins, contents, and significance in Jewish and early Christian literature. He also provides detailed analyses of individual texts, including the Book of Enoch, the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs, and the Apocalypse of Baruch.Throughout the book, Deane explores the theological and cultural themes that are present in the Pseudepigrapha, including the nature of God, the afterlife, and the role of prophecy. He also examines the historical context in which these texts were written, including the political and social conditions of ancient Israel and the Roman Empire.Pseudepigrapha: An Account of Certain Apocryphal Sacred Writings of the Jews and Early Christians is an essential resource for scholars of biblical and religious studies, as well as anyone interested in the history and theology of early Judaism and Christianity. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Southwestarn Baptist ScminW yv. PREFACE. 0W The present work consists chiefly of a reproduction of certain articles (with additions and corrections) contributed by me to various religious periodicals during the ,last fey years. It treats of some curious PseudepiV. graphal Jewish and Christian writings pomposed in the ,V! times immediately preceding or following the commencement of the Christian era, and aims at giving a succinct account of these productions for readers who are not familiar with the originals. The books comprised in our English Bibles under the name of Apocrypha are excluded, as they have been sufficiently examined of late years, and commentaries upon them are readily available. Some of the works treated in this volume are comparatively unknown toE nglish readers, but those (like theB ook of Enoch) which have obtained more currency among us could not be omitted from our survey, especially as they form an integral part of the literature of the period, and are often referred to and vQ cited.
