The present edition is so much enlarged, by the addition of the tenth and eleventh Lectures, including an account of theL iverpool Railway, and of the preparations for workingS team-C arriages upon turnpike roads, that it may be regarded as a new work, rather than a new edition of the former one. I have neglected no means of obtaining correct information on the subjects included in these two additional sections. On the occasion of a recent visit to the Railway at Liverpool, I was favoured with opportimities of witnessing the performances and capabihties of the engines ;and the results of experiments made in my presence are given in the tenth Lecture of the present edition.
