""Teaching Poetry in the Grades"" is a book written by Margaret Winifred Haliburton and published as a part of the Riverside Educational Monographs series in 1911. The book is a comprehensive guide for teachers on how to teach poetry to students in the grades. It provides practical advice on how to select poems, how to analyze them, and how to teach them effectively to students. The book also includes a detailed discussion of the different types of poetry, such as narrative, lyric, and dramatic poetry, and how to teach them in the classroom. Additionally, the author provides examples of lesson plans and activities that can be used to engage students in the study of poetry. This book is an excellent resource for teachers who wish to develop their skills in teaching poetry and for anyone interested in the study of literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

It is the purpose of this book to indicate fully and clearly how poetry should be taught in the grades. The model lessons submitted have been put to the most thorough tests and always with excellent results. The poems chosen are such as have been approved by the best educational authorities throughout the country. They include practically every type of poem suitable for use in grade work. The book is designed not only to meet the needs of grade and rural school teachers but also to be used as a text in methods classes in Reading. Here, we believe, the best results can be secured not by the mere study of the model lessons but by the actual use of the lessons in class. One student may take the part of teacher and the others imagine themselves pupils in one of the eight grades and respond accordingly.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
