Synopsis
""Maid of the Mohawk"" is a historical novel written by Frederick Augustus Ray and published in 1906. The story is set in colonial America during the French and Indian War, and follows the life of a young Mohawk woman named Nonowatka. Nonowatka is the daughter of a Mohawk chief and is raised in a traditional Native American community. However, her life changes when she is captured by the French and taken to Montreal, where she is sold into slavery. Nonowatka is eventually rescued by a British officer named Captain William Johnson, who takes her under his wing and introduces her to European culture. Nonowatka becomes torn between her loyalty to her Mohawk heritage and her growing affection for Captain Johnson. The novel explores themes of identity, cultural conflict, and love in a historical context.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
