Synopsis

The Monk of St. Gall is a dramatic adaptation of Joseph Victor von Scheffel's novel Ekkehard, first published in 1879. The story is set in medieval Germany and follows the life of a monk named Ekkehard, who lives in the monastery of St. Gall. Ekkehard is a learned man and a gifted poet, but he is also deeply conflicted about his vocation as a monk. When a beautiful woman named Hedwig arrives at the monastery seeking refuge, Ekkehard's resolve is put to the test. The two fall in love, but their relationship is forbidden by the strict rules of the monastery. As Ekkehard struggles to reconcile his love for Hedwig with his loyalty to the church, he is forced to make a fateful decision that will change the course of his life. The Monk of St. Gall is a timeless tale of love, faith, and the struggle to find one's true calling in life. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
