In the tradition of the Alchemist and Jonathon Livingston Seagull, Paulo and the Magician comes to us as an enchanting fable, but with a special message. Ambitious and provocative, the story takes the reader through the metaphysics and psychology of A Course In Miracles, weaving in the principles of its challenging philosophy, leaving the reader with a full appreciation of this extraordinary work – all seen through the eyes of Paolo, an unhappy young wood seller desperate to find happiness in the dark medieval prison-town of the Domain. Paulo’s life abounds with the type of people who confront us every day – an unscrupulous Mayor, a violent Blacksmith, ungrateful clients – and it seems that things will never get better. But following an inner vision, he learns that the fortress Wall is not the solid defense it appears to be and escapes into the sun-filled land beyond. There he meets the Magician whose teachings lead the boy resolutely back along the path toward the Golden City, his true Home.

Bernard began his spiritual adventure in 1988 while employed, and disenchanted, as a Golden Boy on Wall Street. Responding to a question asked during a bank training program, “To which historical figure would you like to ask a question?”, he felt a steady, inner voice answer: “I would like to understand what Jesus was really trying to say.” It was a short time afterward that he received a copy of A Course In Miracles, and sensed an immediate, profound connection. At that time he felt that one day he would write a novel based on this remarkable spiritual tradition. Following a need to withdraw from mainstream life in order to continue his studies, he moved to Paris and then to a small village in the Southwest of France. A chaotic period in his life in 1999 led to a series of mystical experiences that brought him finally to begin writing, and “Paulo and the Magician” was the result. He has drafts for two other books, also novels, containing the same message of hope and love. His conviction is that the story-form is the best means for communicating this universal message. Bernard is Australian-born, and lives with his wife Patricia and his golden retriever, Athos, in Salviac, France.
