Synopsis

A Sicilian family battles duty, loss, and endurance as they fight to keep a cherished home and a future for those they love.

This book follows a stubborn clan whose days hinge on work, weather, and the quiet hard choices that shape their lives. Set among tight-knit neighbors and busy harbors, the story moves through work at the docks, planning for the winter, and the steady pressure of family ties. It captures the texture of daily life, from salt-packed kitchens to the rhythms of market days and a community that leans on one another in danger and in joy.

  • Experience a strong, multigenerational cast and their shared history.
  • Watch a family navigate debt, inheritance, and the struggle to keep a house.
  • Feel the pull of a coastal town’s traditions, labor, and stubborn hope.
  • Follow moments of tenderness, resilience, and quiet sacrifice beneath the medlar-tree.
Ideal for readers who enjoy intimate family sagas set against a vivid historical backdrop, where duty and love contend with hardship.
