Hook line : Discover how the Monroe Doctrine shaped American interests and set a divide between the Americas and Europe.
This concise history examines the birth of a defining policy. It traces the ideas behind the Monroe Doctrine, showing how early U.S. leaders framed its scope and aims. You’ll see the clash of priorities among presidents, secretaries of state, and European powers as they debated how the United States should stand in the world. The focus stays on the Western Hemisphere and what happened when independence movements rose across Spanish America.

At PREFACE. THE following pages are published for the most part in the form in which they were written during the summer of 1896 in competition for the Members Prize. Some re-arrangement has, however, been made, and in particular Chapter II., describing generally the diplomatic situation in 1823, has been condensed from what was originally a more elaborate examination of those international relations which may be regarded as the remoter causes of the Monroe Doctrine. One of the factors which produced these relations, the group of revolted colonies that may be collectively described as Spanish A merica, has been separately treated of in an A ppendix.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the historical evolution of the Monroe Doctrine, a foreign policy stance taken by the United States in 1823. The author argues that the policy was not a sudden declaration but rather the culmination of decades of growing national self-confidence and territorial expansion. The book traces the origins of the doctrine to the aftermath of the American Revolution and examines how it was shaped by the country's interactions with European powers and the newly independent nations of South America. The author also explores the doctrine's impact on international relations and its lasting legacy in American foreign policy, arguing that it continues to shape the United States' role in the world today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
