Explore solids, liquids, and gases through simple, hands‑on experiments.
This beginner’s guide turns abstract ideas into tangible learning with clear demonstrations and easy explanations. In this edition, you’ll see how everyday things like water, air, and fire behave under different conditions. The book uses step‑by‑step experiments to reveal the basic states of matter and how gases, liquids, and solids transform from one form to another. It’s written to help curious readers grasp core concepts without heavy jargon, making science feel accessible and doable.

Elementary Lessons inC hemistry have brought before my notice the want of a work for those beginning the study of the science, in which the elementary principles of chemistry are more fully treated than is the case in theL essons, whilst the description of the elements and their compounds is restricted to a few well-chosen typical examples. In the present pages I have endeavoured to fulfil the above requirements, and I have found no selection more suitable to the needs of beginners than that made many years ago for this purpose, and still found to be effective, by theD epartment of Science and A rt. It will be seen that whilst the ground covered in this little book is confined to the discussion of a portion only of the non-metallic elements, a greater amount of detail is in each case given than was found to be possible in theL essons. ~A ugust 1893.
