THE AKIKA. A pure Arabic word, literally means to indicate the naming of a person, or the cropping of one's hair. Religiously, it signifies and specifies a well-known weighty usage or rite observed in the families of all Mussulmans on the occasion of child-birth. Instantly a child is delivered, Alan, the customary prayer, is said at the right-hand side of the child. The Azan, or prayer, that is done in a much clearer voice audible to the ears of the born child, is of the following form :_U God is Great! (said four times). I bear witness that there is no God but God (repeated twice). I bear witness that Mohammed is the Apostle of God (repeated twice). Come to prayers! (said twice). Come to salvation I (recited twice). God is Great! (said twice). There is no Deity but the Deity!" (said only once) and the final call.
