Discover how 1917 reshaped Russia from autocracy to a people-driven government of councils and a new Provisional Authority.
This concise history follows the rapid changes after the revolution, showing how the Provisional Government gained support and faced fierce politics at home and abroad. It examines the tension between the elected Duma, the Council of Workmen’s and Soldiers’ Deputies, and the new ruling body, against a backdrop of war, unrest, and shifting loyalties. You’ll see how ideas about democracy, national self-determination, and relations with allies shaped the early days of a new Russia, and why a temporary government grew into a pivotal moment in world history.
