Synopsis

A clear, practical look at sin, conscience, and the call to penance that can guide daily life.

This section helps readers understand why repentance matters and how grace works in real measure.

The text presents a straightforward exploration of what sin is, how the conscience shines light on wrongdoing, and how God’s grace invites a generous turn toward redemption. It treats sin not as abstract theory but as a lived condition that affects thought, words, and deeds, and it emphasizes the Holy Spirit’s role in revealing truth and guiding repentance. The discussion uses scriptural examples to illuminate how penance can restore and renew the soul, offering a hopeful view of forgiveness and transformation.

Readers will gain a practical framework for recognizing sin, embracing contrition, and seeking reconciliation. It grounds moral reflection in lived faith, showing how conversion, confession, and steadfast trust in God sustain the spiritual journey.

  • A clear definition of sin as a transgression of God’s will and law.
  • How conscience, illumination, and grace work together to convict and heal.
  • What penance means in the life of a believer and how it leads to renewal.
  • Concrete examples that illustrate repentance, forgiveness, and restoration.

Ideal for readers of devotional theology and Catholic spiritual practice seeking clear guidance on sin, grace, and repentance.

Présentation de l'éditeur

It is expedient for you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send Him to you; and when He is come, He shall convince the world of sin. JOHN xvi. SINCE last Lent began, how many souls that were gathered here lyivo passed into eternity. And before another Lent begins, how many will stand before the Great White Throne. Who among us shall be the first to go to judgment? Let us therefore enter upon this Lent as if knowing it to be our last; let us begin this time of conversion to God as if we were sure that another would never be granted to us. Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of penance, for now the axe is laid to the root of the tree ;every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and jast into the fire. 1T hese thoughts have made me choose a subject, sad indeed and severe in all its parts, but vital to every one of us, necessary for our salvation, the root and the foundation of all I mean 1S. Matt. iii. 8-10.
